Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2016-2017 educational progress for Roosevelt Elementary School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Judy Tuttle, Roosevelt Principal, for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.
Increasing academic achievement for all students is always our goal. This past year
all classrooms were required to have a 90 minute 5 day a week reading block along with a Tier II (WIN – What I Need) 30 minute intervention for all students. Students needing more support received Tier III (WIN+) for an additional 30 minutes. The WIN and WIN+ interventions occurred 4-5 days per week. Throughout the year we worked together to collect data and refine our instruction during the block. We provided more interventions in reading and math for students by increasing our Title I support. Our Title I staff (teacher and interventionists) and resource room teachers pushed into classrooms to support students when appropriate. Teachers and interventionists received sustained training throughout the year to improve instruction and intervention.
PROCESS FOR ASSIGNING PUPILS TO THE SCHOOL – Students in Zeeland are assigned to schools based upon their geographical home locations. After all students are placed based upon this “neighborhood school” concept, school of choice students are placed based upon available spots.
THE STATUS OF THE 3-5 YEAR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN – Roosevelt Elementary continues to work on our school improvement plan to help our students achieve the necessary skills for success in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The plan is available for review on our building web sites.
THE CORE CURRICULUM for our school is based upon the State of Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations and National Common Core Standards. This information is available at our school office or on our building website. Zeeland Public Schools makes sure our students are provided challenging lessons that are consistent across grade levels. A team of Zeeland educators regularly evaluates and revises our curriculum to ensure that classroom lessons meet state requirements for kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Ninety seven percent of Roosevelt students were represented by parents at our parent – teacher conferences.
We are very thankful for our strong community partnerships. Our PTO provides us with a variety of special events, funds field trips, and supplies extra classroom materials. Ottawa Reformed Church is our Kids Hope USA partner. Church members mentored approximately 40 students. We also appreciate the support of the Ottawa County Sherriff’s Department, Hand2Hand, the Zee Bus, Zero Gravity, and the Ottawa County Health Department.
Students gave back to the community last year by sponsoring an Angel Tree and a Hat and Mitten Tree during the holidays. We also collected pop can tabs for Ronald McDonald House and held a water drive to support Flint.
Every day we model our mission statement: “The Roosevelt Elementary Staff in partnership with parents and community strives to prepare students for a lifetime of learning by providing a safe and success-oriented learning experience”. Roosevelt is successful because we have a staff dedicated to student success, great community support, and most importantly parents who work with us every day to make sure students value education. Thank you for all you do!
Sincerely,
Judy Tuttle
Roosevelt Elementary School Principal
